Wawrinka still alive in London

Stan Wawrinka has still a shot at qualifying for the final 4 in London.

The Swiss had a horrible performance in the first match against Kei Nishikori to lose 6-2 6-3 after playing a terrible tennis.

Stan reversed his fortune in the second match against Marin Cilic to win 7-6 (3) 7-6 (3). The first set went straight to the breaker with both players holding serve without any problem.  Wawrinka had to recover from a slow start in the second set when he was broken in the very first game to break back in the 4th game. Eventually, also the second set got to the breaker, and Wawrinka managed to wrap up the match after 1 hour and 58 minutes.

Stan was finally happy with his performance to comment

“It was a great match. I’m really happy with the way I played in general. It was a tough match, for sure – two tie-breaks. I think the level was really high. I think I was moving great. It was a great victory for me.”

Next vs. Murray

To qualify for the semi-final, Stan needs to beat Andy Murray. The head of head is 9-7 for Stan that has defeated Andy in 3 of the last four matches, and he downed the Brit last year in the Finals. Stan commented

“All I know is if I want to have a chance to qualify, I need to win. That’s all I’m trying to do. I’m going to try to play my best tennis, to beat the World No. 1. It’s going to be a tough match. We played many times against each other. He’s playing his best tennis so far. It’s going to be interesting. I’m happy to play here in front of his home crowd. I’m sure it’s going to be a great atmosphere.”

Andy would be better to be extremely careful because the Swiss usually plays his best tennis in the important occasions. This will be one of those…
