Sascha Zverev is currently in the quarters at the Hamburg Open where he is trying to find the confidence he has lost during the last few months.
After the German sensation won the ATP Finals following 2 back to back prestigious wins over Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer everything went down for Sascha. Zverev broke up with his girlfriend (now they are back), he had a rather below-par 2019, and he started a harsh legal battle against his former manager Patricio Apey.
Zverev is also having not a great relationship with his actual coach Ivan Lendl, and he blasted him rather sensationally during a recent interview in Hamburg hinting that he was more interested in talking about golf and his little dog than coaching him. Apparently, Sascha reprimanded him asking to focus more on his job.
Boris Becker and Sascha Zverev
Boris Becker has a great experience as a coach especially after his fantastic stint with Novak Djokovic. The German is very close to Sascha, and there are speculations that he can be his next coach. Boris is often seen watching Sascha during his matches and he is now in Hamburg.
Recently, Becker was quite vocal against Lendl saying that Ivan had to step in to help Zverev during this difficult season, but instead he didn’t find the solution.
What Boris Becker said
During a recent press conference in Hamburg, Becker commented:
“They [Zverev and Lendl] won the Tour finals, and then something broke between them. I’m not going into details, but something happened, and it had something to do with Apey.”
