Elena Rybakina has recently voiced her disappointment over the lack of support from her WTA colleagues following the controversy surrounding her former coach, Stefano Vukov. The Kazakh tennis player revealed that despite the turmoil, none of her fellow players reached out to offer any assistance or solidarity.
The controversy began when Rybakina decided to part ways with Vukov just before the 2024 US Open. Shortly after, the WTA provisionally suspended Vukov due to an alleged violation of its code of conduct. Despite the suspension, Rybakina has consistently defended Vukov against any allegations of wrongdoing.
In an emotional statement, Rybakina revealed that she felt isolated and unsupported by her fellow players during this challenging time. “It’s very disappointing the way it’s been handled, just the outcome. No one offered any support. Honestly don’t need. There is couple players I’m in touch more. But to say that I have very, very close friends on tour, it’s I think not true just because we competing against each other. Everybody’s surrounded by their teams,” she said.
Rybakina’s comments highlight the intense pressure and emotional toll that professional athletes often face, especially when dealing with controversies and conflicts within their teams. Despite the challenges, Rybakina remains determined to continue her career and has recently teamed up with Goran Ivanisevic, Novak Djokovic’s former coach, although Vukov continues to be a part of her team in an unofficial capacity.
The lack of solidarity from her colleagues has undoubtedly added to Rybakina’s struggles, but she remains focused on her goals and determined to overcome the obstacles in her path.
