Fabio Fognini made some more enemies (for a change) in the US!
In the first round, the Italian won an incredible fight against Russia’s Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-7 3-6 7-6 7-5 6-4 in 4 hours and 47 minutes, but he had a rather bumpy ride.
The Italian received a warning for throwing a ball in anger in the second set, and later he had a penalty point for removing the sunglasses from a lines judge.

After winning the match, the Italian commented
“They have their rules. You know, the Americans are different in every way. Of the four Slams, this, as far as I’m concerned, is the worst, for a number of reasons.”
