Tennis may be an individual sport but players are always looking for support, advice and motivation. You could have noticed that once a player achieves a big feat on the tennis court, he or she runs towards his family sitting in the boxes. Family is very important for tennis players as it is from there that they get all the energy and motivation to win the big matches.

Roger Federer has got a great support system in terms of having a really good family. His family understand what is required to become a professional athlete and fully supports him and it will not be an overstatement to say that the Swiss champ’s family has played a big role in his achieving greatness on the tennis court.

Roger Federer’s wife

Federer met his wife in Australia during the Sydney Olympics. His wife Mirka (is a former tennis player) and he was representing Switzerland in the Olympic games.

Roger tells about meeting his wife for the first time:

“We spent two weeks together, that’s how we got to know each other and on the last day before we left, we kissed for the first time in Sydney.”

Mirka won three ITF titles in her career but had to retire earlier due to multiple foot injuries.

After dating for 9 years, they got married on April 11, 2009.

Roger Federer twin daughters

Federer has twin daughters, Myla Rose and Charlene Riva. The world no.3 loves to have his daughters and his wife close by wherever he travels. He says that he will be unhappy without them.

“I would be unhappy on the tour without them, I would retire… It’s good for my mind, when I come back from a match and I’ve lost, they’re there and don’t care if you’ve won or you’ve lost. It’s great.”

Roger Federer’s twin sons

Leo and Lennart “Lenny” are two twin sons born to Federer and his wife on May 6, 2014. Having twins runs in the Federer family, his only sibling and elder sister, Diana is a mother of boy and girl twins. The 8-time Wimbledon champion’s maternal grandmother was a twin as well.

Roger Federer’s parents

Roger’s father, Robert was born in Switzerland but moved to South Africa when he was 20 years of age. Robert met his wife, Lynette (Federer’s mother) in South Africa. She grew up in Johannesburg and played field hockey at a high level.
