Coco Gauff has been tipped to ascend to the WTA World No. 1 ranking in 2025, with ATP star Chris Eubanks expressing confidence in her ability to achieve the milestone.

The 20-year-old American currently holds the No. 3 spot in the rankings, trailing Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. Gauff’s steady rise through the rankings over the past few years has impressed Eubanks, who believes her upward trajectory points to her eventual reign at the top.

“We’ve seen so much greatness from her at such a young age. I think it’s safe to say that she will become world number one,” Eubanks stated on the Tennis Channel Live podcast. “Although it’s a big points deficit, I think she can do it next year.”

Gauff had a rollercoaster 2024 season, starting strong with a title defense at the ASB Classic and semi-final appearances at the Australian Open and French Open. However, mid-season struggles saw her stumble at Wimbledon, the Paris Olympics, and the US Open.

Following her early exit at Flushing Meadows, Gauff revamped her coaching team, parting ways with Brad Gilbert and bringing Matt Daly onboard. The changes yielded immediate results as she claimed titles at the China Open and the WTA Finals.

Eubanks highlighted her consistent year-on-year progress: “Her highest ranking in 2021 was 19, in 2022 it was 4, in 2023 it was 3, and in 2024 it was 2. This year was number two, and there’s only one place to go from there.”

Despite the optimism, Gauff faces a challenging path, with Sabalenka and Swiatek holding substantial points leads. However, the Australian summer swing offers opportunities, with Sabalenka defending 2,325 points, Swiatek 630, and Gauff 1,030. Strong performances early in the season could significantly narrow the gap.
