Simona Halep has been awarded a main draw wildcard for the upcoming ASB Classic in Auckland, marking her return to the WTA Tour after her ranking fell to No. 877. This wildcard provides Halep an opportunity to compete in a main-level tournament ahead of the Australian Open, where she also received a qualifying wildcard.

The two-time Grand Slam champion will play in Auckland for the third time, her first appearance since 2013. In her previous outings, she reached the quarterfinals in 2011 and the round-of-16 in 2013. Joining Halep in the tournament are Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu, adding star power to the event beginning December 30.

Halep expressed gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging her need for assistance due to her current ranking.
