British tennis star Jack Draper has withdrawn from the United Cup to manage a hip injury ahead of the Australian Open. The 22-year-old, who has been experiencing hip problems since pre-season training, made the difficult decision to prioritize his health and rehabilitation.

Draper, who was set to represent Great Britain alongside Katie Boulter in the international team tournament starting on December 30 in Sydney, expressed his disappointment on social media. “While we are very positive about competing in the Australian Open this year, I know I won’t be able to jump straight into a packed schedule as I manage and strengthen my hip,” Draper said.

The British number one sustained the injury during pre-season training and had to cancel a scheduled practice week with Carlos Alcaraz in Spain. Draper’s decision to withdraw from the United Cup and the Davis Cup tie with Japan will allow him to focus on his recovery and ensure he is fit for the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne, which begins on January 12.

Draper’s absence from the United Cup means Billy Harris will step up to replace him, while Jacob Fearnley is expected to make his debut in the Davis Cup tie against Japan. Despite the setback, Draper remains optimistic about his chances at the Australian Open and is determined to come back stronger.

The tennis community has shown support for Draper, with fans and fellow players wishing him a speedy recovery. Draper, who achieved a career-high ranking of 15 after winning his first two ATP Tour titles and reaching the US Open semi-finals, is eager to return to the court at full strength.

As Draper focuses on his rehabilitation, all eyes will be on his progress and his performance in the upcoming Australian Open. His determination and resilience will undoubtedly be key factors in his journey back to peak form.
