Former world No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko has criticized Nick Kyrgios for his outspoken remarks following the doping controversies involving Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. Kyrgios previously questioned Sinner’s integrity in a social media post, which drew backlash.
Davydenko, who recently described Kyrgios as a “showman” prone to “talking nonsense,” reiterated his disdain during an interview on Match TV. He labeled the Australian’s remarks unhelpful and pointed out that Kyrgios often courts controversy with his outspoken nature.
While discussing doping, Davydenko defended Sinner’s growth as a player, emphasizing tactical improvements over suspicions. He reflected on his own career, referencing Mariano Puerta’s 2005 doping scandal, and questioned the increasing complexity of modern doping regulations.
Davydenko concluded by urging the ATP to simplify rules while maintaining fairness, describing the current system as overly stringent and confusing.
