Roddick Explains Why He Believes That Jannik Sinner Will Be Suspended For Doping

Jannik Sinner’s career hangs in the balance as the Court of Arbitration for Sport deliberates on his Clostebol doping case. A potential suspension looms over the young Italian, with WADA pushing for a disqualification of one to two years. While the final decision is expected by mid-February 2025, Sinner remains eligible to compete in the Australian Open.

Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick shared his perspective on the situation during his podcast Served with, offering predictions and insights into the complexities of Sinner’s case. Comparing it to Iga Swiatek’s month-long doping-related suspension, Roddick speculated that Sinner might face a harsher penalty due to the precedent set and the circumstances involving his team.

Roddick noted that a suspension as brief as one month might allow Sinner to compete in Miami, while a three-month ban would see him return in time for the French Open. However, a six-month penalty could severely disrupt his season, potentially sidelining him until just before the US Open.

Despite acknowledging the severity of the situation, Roddick expressed belief that Sinner did not intentionally dope, emphasizing the lack of performance-enhancing effects from the substance in question. For Sinner, the stakes are high as he awaits the ruling that could shape the trajectory of his promising career.
