In a thrilling match at the 2024 Paris Masters, world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz faced off against French No. 1 Ugo Humbert. Despite Alcaraz’s strong performance, it was Humbert who emerged victorious with a stunning 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win.

After the match, Alcaraz graciously congratulated Humbert, acknowledging his exceptional play. “I need to congratulate Humbert. His performance was very high,” Alcaraz told reporters during the post-match press conference. He continued, “The way he hits the ball is unbelievable. It’s amazing.”

Humbert’s victory was a result of his aggressive and consistent play, which kept Alcaraz on the back foot throughout the match. The Frenchman raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set, showcasing his dominance early on. Although Alcaraz fought back in the second set, taking it 6-3, Humbert’s resilience in the third set ultimately sealed the match in his favor.

Reflecting on the match, Alcaraz admitted that the speed of the court was a challenge for him. “It is the fastest court in the Masters 1000, probably on the tour right now,” he said. “I play the Davis Cup indoor court, and the court was way slower than this one.”

Despite the loss, Alcaraz’s performance was commendable, and he remains a strong contender for future titles. Humbert, on the other hand, celebrated one of the biggest wins of his career, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters.

As Alcaraz looks ahead to the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, he will undoubtedly use this match as motivation to improve and come back stronger in future tournaments.
