Maria Sharapova seems to have missed another chance to be “loved” by another colleague. When she was banned for doping the most startling thing was seen how aggressive were most of the tennis players against the Russian and yesterday she was criticized again.
Sharapova retiring when 0-5 down
Maria 4-6 7-6 (4) 5-0 down against Pauline Parmentier when she decided to retire because of a problem to her arm. Sharapova failed to serve out the match in the 2nd set when she was leading 6-4 5-2 to lose 10 of the following 11 games.
Parmentier wasn’t impressed by that to comment
“Retiring at 5-0 isn’t very classy, but I wasn’t expecting something else. I mean, she could’ve done it before as she was clearly in pain, but at 5-0 is almost like I won”
On the other side, during her press conference, and emotional Sharapova commented
“I don’t want to leave. Everyone has a job in this place. You guys have a job. Of course, I withdrew in the middle of the match. I rarely do that. I haven’t given a press conference in a long time at a Grand Slam. I want to show up.
Yeah, I mean, it’s, what, 30, 40 minutes after the match. I just saw a doctor, did a scan. Those things are not fun. I haven’t seen my team yet. This is part of the job.”
