After thinking back on the incredible experience of playing with Roger Federer, Carlos Alcaraz called it a masterclass from the Swiss legend.
The world No. 2 also anticipated playing in the Paris Masters, his third competition in the French capital this year. Alcaraz, who has named Federer as one of his idols, crossed paths with Federer on the court during the Shanghai Masters earlier this month.
Alcaraz revealed at the Laver Cup last month that Federer is an inspiration to him in terms of his shot-making.
Alcaraz talked about it and said: “I think one of the first tennis players who brought these kinds of shots, making the impossible possible, was Roger. I watched him many, many times, his matches. He hit shots—unbelievable shots. Every kid wants to imitate him a little bit, and that’s why I’m trying in every practice, in every match, trying to bring some good shots in the match, to make the people enjoy watching tennis a little bit.”
Even before the Paris Masters, Alcaraz discussed his unofficial practice session with Federer in Shanghai in an interview with Eurosport.
Alcaraz added: “It was an unbelievable experience for me. Having the chance to play with him, it was great. I just enjoyed so much, every shot, watching him playing the shots so easily. It was a dream. It was a great experience. I had the chance to talk a lot with him, ask him some questions about when he was playing. It was a masterclass honestly from him.”
