Jannik Sinner has openly stated that he plans to continue playing tennis for another 15 years until he is between 35 and 40 years old.
World No. 1 said he hoped his body could hold on and that he and his team would make choices that would extend his life. Sinner, who turned 23 in August, seems intent on replicating the Big Three’s incredible perseverance: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
Sinner has won seven titles in 2024, including two majors, and has a 65-6 record so far in what has been an incredible season. Sinner stated in an interview with Sky Sports Italy that he intends to stay in the game for well over ten more years.
Sinner shared his thoughts and said: “I’m going to play another 15 years until I am 35-40 years old. Let’s hope my body can hold on. They say that 15 years is a long time, but it’s not, because I arrived here in the hotel, the same hotel, same room, and I realised this year passed really fast. So, we are trying to make all the possible choices to continue playing tennis for as long as possible for my body, but we also can’t waste time. It’s a nice balance of improvement, working with the desire to win and having around the people you want and who you know can help you.”
Sinner discussed whether being ranked number one in the world adds pressure before his appearance at this week’s Paris Masters.
He added: “Honestly I don’t think so much about this. This is something I’ve worked my whole life, you know, to be world No 1. Now I am there and I just try to enjoy it. Every match you have a lot of pressure, and you have a lot of expectations, but this pressure and expectations start from my side because I want to win and prove to myself that I am capable of winning these kinds of matches. Of course, it’s never easy, you know, to be in that position, but I always say it’s a huge privilege to be in this position and I try to enjoy some good tennis. The rest I cannot control.”
