Gauff Talking

Although Coco Gauff has enjoyed her time on the WTA Tour these past two weeks, she has not had an easy time physically.

The Wuhan Open, which concludes on Sunday, is the next stop on the WTA Tour after the China Open. After winning in Beijing, Gauff didn’t have much time to relax because she had to fly straight to Wuhan to start getting ready for the competition.

The 20-year-old is currently in the quarterfinals and is attempting to win in her first attempt at a back-to-back title.

Gauff had not advanced to the quarterfinals of an event since the June French Open before her victory on Sunday in Beijing. After defeating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday morning, she has now made eight consecutive appearances.

Gauff, who won her opening match against Viktoriya Tomova, mentioned the slower and heavier conditions in Wuhan, despite her recent success being physically punishing.

However, the world number four is excited to compete and is working hard to overcome every obstacle in her quest to win the Wuhan championship.

Gauff said during her on-court interview: “I mean every day is tough. I have spent a lot of energy the last couple of days, so every match is a blessing. I am just happy to get the chance to play, maybe when I’m not 100%. I played really well today. Marta is a tough opponent but happy with how I played. Every match I am just trying to push through, it’s been a lot of matches in a short amount of time, but I’m happy with how I played today.”
