Stefanos Tsitsipas left fans puzzled after writing “7784” on a camera lens following his Shanghai Masters victory over Kei Nishikori. The Greek star later explained on social media that the four-digit number represents his Chinese nickname, “qī-qī-bā-sì” in Mandarin.

Tsitsipas, who enjoys strong support from Chinese fans, advanced to the second round after defeating Nishikori 7-6, 6-4. The win marks a much-needed boost for Tsitsipas, who has been struggling with form, including early exits at the US Open and Japan Open. He now looks forward to building momentum in Shanghai, driven by the love of local supporters.

“I feel privileged and lucky,” Tsitsipas remarked, reflecting on the warm reception he’s always received in China.

Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his deep appreciation for the love he receives from fans in China, saying, “Fans here love me. They have embraced me over the years, I don’t know what it is about me that they like so much.
