Daniil Medvedev, currently gearing up for the ATP 500 in Beijing, shared his thoughts on facing top-tier rivals Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The Russian player, who lost to Sinner at the Australian Open and to Alcaraz at Indian Wells, knows that overcoming these two rising stars won’t be an easy task.
In the lead-up to a potential semifinal against Alcaraz, Medvedev highlighted the short preparation time after competing in the Laver Cup. “We both come from the Laver Cup, so we have to win the first matches. It will not be easy with the jet lag and everything else. Usually, you prepare with more time,” he said. Medvedev emphasized the difficulty of playing against Alcaraz, especially when the Spaniard is in top form, adding, “Playing against Carlos is not easy, especially when he’s in shape. I saw him at the Laver Cup, and he was playing really well. We will have to put him under pressure.”
While Medvedev is determined to deliver his best, he knows that in any major tournament featuring Sinner and Alcaraz, being the second seed means facing tough competition from the start. “If I want to win the tournament, I have to give my best from the first to the last match,” he remarked. Despite the challenges, Medvedev remains focused on improving his level match by match.
Medvedev also reflected on his disappointing Laver Cup performance, where he was the only team member not to score a point. However, he took the setback in stride, emphasizing the team aspect of the event: “It was a very nice experience. I was the only one in the team who got zero points, but that’s okay—it’s a team competition, and my team won.”
As Medvedev prepares to face Gael Monfils in his first-round match in Beijing, he remains optimistic, eager to bounce back and showcase his signature tennis skills against top competition.
