Naomi Osaka talks about her recent coaching change

Following her victory in her first match under the coaching of new coach Patrick Mouratoglou, Naomi Osaka said she was done looking back.

Osaka Talks About Coaching Change

After triumphing in her first match under new coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s guidance, Naomi Osaka declared that she did not want to look back.

The four-time grand slam champion ended her relationship with longtime mentor Wim Fissette earlier this month and enlisted the help of Frenchman Mouratoglou, who is most known for having supported Serena Williams during the final ten years of her career.

After giving birth to her daughter Shai last year, Osaka rejoined the tour at the beginning of the season.

However, she has been dissatisfied with her progress and is currently ranked 73rd. The Japanese player defeated Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti 6-3 6-2 on Wednesday to get off to a good start at the China Open in Beijing.

She recently talked about it and said: “I think the fact that he was Serena’s coach for me made me want to avoid him just because his persona is so big. Like, this isn’t rude because I found out it’s not true, but I didn’t know if he was a good coach or he coached Serena. Then I met him, talked to him, worked with him on the court. He absolutely is a really good coach. I’m really glad that he’s taking this project on, as well.”

She added: “I think I’m at a stage in my life that I don’t want to have regrets. I’d rather pull the trigger on something and – I don’t want to say ‘fail’ – but I feel like I really need to learn as much as possible at this stage of my career. Patrick seemed like the guy with, I guess, the information that I wanted to learn from.”
