Aryna Sabalenka, who finished in second place 12 months ago at the U.S. Open, shed tears. Two years ago, she had lost other tough-to-take losses, exiting in the semifinals each time. After winning her first championship at Flushing Meadows and her third career Grand Slam title, Sabalenka was laughing around on Saturday.

The No. 2 seed Sabalenka defeated No. 6 Jessica Pegula 7-5, 7-5 in a thrilling final held at Arthur Ashe Stadium. She added this victory to those she had won at the Australian Open the previous two seasons by showcasing her usual power and variety.

During her press conference, Sabalenka mentioned various challenges outside the court while seated close to the U.S. Open trophy. In the year 2019, her father passed away. She had to withdraw from Wimbledon before the competition started in July due to a problem with her right shoulder.

Sabalenka thanked the crowd for supporting her after extending her winning run to 12 games, which was most likely unrelated to her joking offer of “Drinks on Me” following a previous triumph.

In a humorous video she posted on her Instagram account, Sabalenka can be seen dancing with the US Open trophy and having a good time.
