Davis Cup Life In The Fast Lane: Alcaraz Takes Inspiration From Formula 1

Carlos Alcaraz, the 21-year-old tennis sensation, found a unique way to reset after his surprising early exit at the US Open by attending the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The experience, which allowed him to witness the intense focus and preparation of Formula 1 drivers, became a source of inspiration for his upcoming Davis Cup matches.

“It was an amazing experience, honestly,” Alcaraz shared. “The way that the drivers approach races is insane. Their focus on every step of the warm-up, everything, it’s crazy. I tried to think about doing the same when I approach my matches.”

Just days after his Grand Prix adventure, Alcaraz returned to the practice courts, preparing for Spain’s Davis Cup Finals Group Stage in Valencia. Selected by team captain David Ferrer, Alcaraz is set to compete alongside Pedro Martinez, Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Marcel Granollers. This marks his first Davis Cup appearance since 2022.

Despite his loss in New York, Alcaraz had a triumphant summer, winning the French Open, retaining his Wimbledon title, and securing a silver medal in his Olympic debut. Reflecting on his achievements, he noted, “At some points, I want more time to relax and celebrate, but at other points, I prefer not to think about it too much. I just try to keep going.”

Facing a challenging group, which includes Australia, France, and Czechia, Alcaraz remains optimistic. “If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best,” he said. Spain, with the advantage of playing at home in Valencia, is determined to advance in the competition.
