Tennis player Yulia Puntintseva came under fire from broadcaster Piers Morgan for her actions toward a ball girl during the US Open.
The Wimbledon champion Jasmine Paolini defeated Kazakh player Putintseva at Flushing Meadows in the third round of play. But the behaviour that caught people’s attention during the game did.
When Putintseva was offered fresh balls after dropping the first set and falling behind 4-2 in the second, she just stared at the ball girl without responding.
Social media footage showed a ball girl approaching the 29-year-old with two balls after a point. She threw one ball at a time in Puntintseva’s direction, but the player never moved, allowing the balls to bounce off her.
Morgan wrote on X: “Disgusting arrogance by @PutintsevaYulia. The ball girl should have thrown the third one in her taunting face.”
