Emma Raducanu has revealed why she declined to compete in some prestigious WTA events, stating that she is not in a huge hurry to play a lot of matches.
With her last match starting in August, the 21-year-old has only participated in one hard-court competition just before the US Open, which has raised eyebrows due to her recent schedule.
Raducanu made it to the Citi DC Open quarterfinals after choosing to forego the Olympics in Paris to concentrate on the North American swing, but that was her final appearance on the WTA Tour.
Her ranking wasn’t good enough to get her into the Canadian Open main draw directly, and she didn’t qualify for the qualifying round either, though it’s possible that she needed a wildcard there too. Instead, she was passed over for a wildcard.
Even though Raducanu has only played three matches since Wimbledon, she says she is content to approach things a little differently.
Raducanu talked about it and said: “I didn’t play in Toronto because it was such a tight turnaround but I would have loved to. I have a Canadian passport but I would have had to fly on Saturday and play on Sunday, and I think it would have been too tight of a turnover. I have always done things a little bit differently. I mix-and-match. I don’t think I will ever be the player who’s close to 30 events a year. I think that’s not my style—it never has been.”
She added: “Even when I was playing juniors, I would pretty much play a few tournaments, all the Slams, and go to school, and I’ve always kind of done it that way. When I won the US Open, I only played a few tournaments that year. I’m not in any big rush to play loads. I’d rather target tournaments and be ready to play the tournaments I’ve entered in.”

LWWLWWWLWW Now the world no.72, the Brit played her last match on the 2nd of August when she lost to world no.29 Paula Badosa 4-6 7-5 6-4 in the quarter in Washington (draw).
This season the Brit achieved a composed 18-11 win-loss record. Emma Raducanu’s best result of the present season was reaching the semifinal in Nottingham.
Emma Raducanu will fight against the world no.58 Viktoriya Tomova in the final. Their actual head to head record is 1-0 for Tomova.
She is also scheduled to play in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Tennis Open). The main draw will start on the 28th of October.
