Federer cruises to the Halle final after an easy win over Herbert

Federer in the finals of Halle Open

Roger Federer and Pierre-Hugues Herbert clashed in the semifinals of the Halle Open.

Federer cruised to an easy victory without much trouble as Herbert didn’t prove a match for the champion player. The Swiss beat the Frenchman Herbert 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 2 minutes.

Frenchman Herbert was absolutely no match for the grass court genius, the win has set Federer against Belgian David Goffin in the finals. If Federer wins against Goffin then it will be his 10th Halle title. If he wins, he will also be the second male player after Rafael Nadal to win this tournament for more than 10 times.

The Match

In the first set, the Swiss snatched a break on Herbert’s serve in the second game of the set to take an early lead. He made this slight lead a decisive one to win the set 6-3.

In the second set, Herbert managed to save his serve till the 6th game to level at 3-3 but Federer broke in the 7th game and again in the 9th game to claim the set 6-3.

This straight-sets victory will surely give the Swiss champ some respite after his hard battle with Agut in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

After the match, Federer commented: “It’s great. I thought it was a very solid performance from me. I didn’t struggle on serve and I had my opportunities on the return and was able to take them. I was able to find some good energy today, especially in the important moments. It was maybe exactly what I needed going into the finals now.”

Federer will face Goffin on his way to the 10th Halle title. Goffin commented about his final match with the world no.3:

“We all know how good Roger is on the grass. He is incredible, but I will try to be ready to beat him”.
