PADEL. Rawdon club raises £1300 to help women

A fundraising event was arranged by Womankind Worldwide, a feminist women's rights organization located in the UK, to benefit women in Nepal. Tennis, padel, and golf facilities were available at the tournament. The female component of the group wanted to change things by giving people who didn't have access to fundamental possibilities. The day of golf, tennis, and padel was enjoyed by everybody who attended the wonderful event.

The Rawdon Lawn Tennis, Padel, and Golf Club recently came together to support Womankind Worldwide by raising over £1,300.

With its main office in the UK, Womankind Worldwide is a feminist global organization for women’s rights that works to better the lives of women by supporting women’s movements all around the world.

After visiting Nepal and witnessing firsthand the suffering faced by women and families there, Rosie Connell, a tennis club member, decided to support Womankind Worldwide. So when a charity event was proposed, there was only one group that came to mind for assistance.

Club spokesperson Jan Spence stated: “As the club’s female section, we feel deeply for women throughout the world who do not have access to the opportunities we do, such the tennis, padel, and golf facilities at our local club. We thought it was a wonderful idea to attempt to help those who don’t have access to the necessities, let alone the luxuries, since we are so privileged in so many ways.”

Activities started on July 23 and lasted for a week. Lady Captain Liz Pennington organized a ladies’ golf day, while Lily Wong hosted a tennis social event and quiz that same evening.

A Padel event organized by Rosie Connell of GB Seniors Padel was held on July 24. On July 26, a ladies’ Padel Festival was held with the assistance of Nicky Horn of GB Seniors Padel, the Rackets Department Secretary Sally Bickerton, who is also a GB Senior Padel player, and several other volunteers.

“Everything got off to a great start with the golf competition on Tuesday, and the weather looked good for the rest of the week,” Jan disclosed. Later that evening, there was a tennis tournament in the “American Style,” which the attendees enjoyed. Wednesday’s Padel event was followed by a full-day mixed Padel competition for thirty-two participants. A bottle tombola and book lucky dip were part of the occasion. Everyone in attendance had an amazing day, and the event and weather couldn’t have been more perfect.
