The Serbian government has announced plans to construct a museum dedicated to tennis legend Novak Djokovic in Belgrade. The museum will celebrate Djokovic’s remarkable career, which includes 24 Grand Slam titles, seven Masters victories, a Davis Cup, and an Olympic gold medal. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić revealed the plans, stating, “We have just had the first discussions on the construction of the Novak Djokovic museum, which will be a new attraction for the city.”
President Vučić drew comparisons to the Rafael Nadal museum in Mallorca, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Djokovic’s contributions to Serbia and attracting tourists to the country. “We will make sure to show what Djokovic did for our country, while attracting tourists,” Vučić added, expressing hopes that the museum could open by 2027.
Djokovic, who has spent the most weeks as world number one, is a national hero in Serbia. Despite residing in Monaco, he frequently returns to Serbia and often expresses his deep affection for his homeland. Following his first Olympic title at the age of 37, Djokovic wrote on Instagram, “I could never have given up on my dream, to win this gold medal, just like the Serbian people always believed in me. Even though I am the one holding this medal, I want every Serb to know that it belongs to all of us. Representing our nation is the greatest honor in the world.”
The museum is expected to become a significant cultural landmark in Belgrade, celebrating Djokovic’s legacy and his impact on both Serbian and global tennis.
