In the Olympic men’s doubles opening round, Andy Murray and Dan Evans staged an incredible comeback from five match points down to preserve Murray’s career. They ultimately defeated Japan’s Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori 2-6, 7-6 (5), 11-9.
Murray and Evans were down 2-6, 2-4 early in a match that looked like it would be decided in little over an hour, but they rallied and won the second set tie-break by a narrow margin to force a 10-point match tie-break. They scored seven straight points to rescue a triumph from the jaws of doom, rallying from five match points down at 4-9, with Murray one point from the end of his career.
Murray called the victory one of the greatest comebacks in his career. He talked about it and said: “I know in my career I turned around a lot of matches that maybe I looked unlikely to win or maybe people thought I shouldn’t have won. At times, I’ve had that sort of mental toughness, strength at times, that certainly early in my career was questioned. But yeah, I’m really proud of that side of things really, coming back from two sets to love more than anyone in the sport before.”
He added: “It’s probably up there. Probably the way that we were playing to that stage would have not suggested that we were likely to come back. I certainly didn’t feel like I was playing well. I’ve always tried my best to fight and figure out ways to come through and I certainly couldn’t have done that on my own today. We’re out there as a team and Evo certainly played a huge, huge part in that.”

LWLLLLWLWW Now the world no.117, the Brit played his last match on the 19th of June when he had to retire when playing against world no.33 Jordan Thompson in the 2nd round and the scoreline was 4-1 .
Currently, during this year the Brit has achieved an overall 7-13 win-loss record.
