Genie Bouchard has a complex relationship the Fed Cup. Some time ago she has been heavily criticized for snubbing it; last year she decided to play, but that participation was tainted by her refusal to shake hands with Dulgheru during the match preview (eventually she lost that match!). Now Genie decided to play the tie against Slovakia, but she had to retire because of an abdominal injury that has afflicted her also last year.
Bouchard. I am disappointed
Genie commented “I am disappointed that I won’t be a part of the team, I was looking forward to defending my country’s colors and joining my teammates in Slovakia,” Bouchard commented. “However, I need to take the time to heal my injury. I wish our team the best of luck.”
Genie will be replaced by 17-year-old, Charlotte Robillard-Millette.
