Stefanos Tsitsipas recently shed light on an agreement with his girlfriend, Paula Badosa, regarding their approach to supporting each other during matches. The Greek tennis star explained that the couple decided to avoid attending each other’s matches to minimize stress and maintain focus on their individual games.
Tsitsipas, who recently reached the semifinals at the ATP 250 event in Gstaad before being defeated by Matteo Berrettini, emphasized the importance of this decision. He mentioned the challenges he faced when attending Badosa’s matches, such as the distractions from fans and the personal stress of watching her play. “Sometimes when she’s playing, I have an off day and need to train and just get back into my routine,” Tsitsipas told the Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten.
Recalling his experiences, Tsitsipas noted, “It can sometimes be difficult and drain my energy when I’m watching her game on an outdoor court with hundreds of fans asking for autographs.” He added, “I’m also the type of guy who gets stressed out watching her play tennis.”
This mutual understanding has helped both athletes maintain their focus on their respective careers. “This is one of the agreements I made with Paula. If she wants to watch, she always can. But it’s better if we focus on our tennis and our training,” Tsitsipas concluded.
Despite their decision, the couple continues to support each other off the court, sharing affectionate moments and celebrating each other’s successes privately.
