Recently, Casper Ruud shared his thoughts on receiving a partnership offer from Rafael Nadal for the doubles competition at the Bastad Nordea Open.
In the ATP 250 event’s opening round, Nadal and Ruud defeated Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Guido Andreozzi 6-1, 6-4, setting up a successful run-up to the Paris Olympics this year.
Speaking at the press conference before the ATP event, Ruud revealed that he received a text from the 22-time Major champion suggesting they team up in the doubles, and he instantly accepted. Meanwhile, Ruud’s most recent appearance was at the London Major, where he lost to Italy’s Fabio Fognini in the second round.
Ruud said: “Rafa sent a text and asked. I don’t usually play doubles, but when Rafa asks, it’s easy to say yes.”

Now ranked no.261, the Spaniard played his last match on the 27th of May when he lost to world no.4 Alexander Zverev 6-3 7-6(5) 6-3 in the 1st round of the French Open (draw).
