Djokovic: “He was better than me in every shot”

Djokovic loses Wimbledon final to Alcaraz, ending his bid for a 25th Grand Slam title, and aims for Olympic gold.

Djokovic: He Was Better Than Me In Every Shot

LONDON, July 14 (Reuters) – Novak Djokovic’s quest for a record 25th Grand Slam title ended in disappointment on Sunday as Carlos Alcaraz delivered a commanding performance in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz, displaying superior form, overpowered the 37-year-old Djokovic with a 6-2 6-2 7-6(4) victory, retaining his title and securing his fourth major trophy.

“He deserved this win today. He was the better player from the beginning till the end,” Djokovic acknowledged. Despite his efforts to rally in the third set and save three match points, Djokovic conceded that Alcaraz’s superior quality made his victory inevitable.

Djokovic’s presence in the final was remarkable given his recent surgery for a torn meniscus just five weeks prior. Wearing a right knee support, he battled through the tournament, but ultimately, his bid to match Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles was thwarted by Alcaraz. Reflecting on his performance, Djokovic stated, “Of course, I feel disappointed. It’s a bitter taste to lose the final the way I did today. It has to be a success at the end of the day with me and my team playing the Wimbledon final and losing to the best player of the tournament.”

Looking ahead, Djokovic aims to rebound at the Olympics in Paris, where he hopes to secure a gold medal at Roland Garros. “Let’s see how I’m going to feel physically and mentally. Hopefully I can find the right tennis because I’m going to need all I have and more to go to the final of the Olympics,” he remarked. Despite the setback, Djokovic remains determined to continue competing at a high level, with no immediate plans for retirement.
