Amanda Anisimova withdraws from the Libema Open

Amanda is not fit to play her first match on grass

Amanda Anisimova was due to play her first pro match on grass this week at the Libema Open, but unfortunately she had to withdraw citing a viral illness.

The American sensation hit the headlines last week after she reached the semifinals at the French Open before losing in 3 sets to Ashleigh Barty and she was excited to test her tennis on grass that is a surface that could favor her style.

The statement

Anisimova released the following statement:

“Unfortunately, I will need more rest and recovery and I will not be able to compete at my best so I’m disappointed to have to withdraw from the Libéma Open. This was my first visit to the Netherlands, and I hope to come back next year and play in front of the amazing fans.”

Amanda withdrew for the same reason from the doubles at the Roland Garros even if it was thought it was “an excuse” to be fresher and more prepared to play in singles as her run was surprisingly deep.
