Judy Murray has provided clarification regarding her perceived criticism of Emma Raducanu for withdrawing from the Wimbledon mixed doubles match due to backlash on social media. Raducanu was scheduled to play Andy Murray on Saturday night, but she withdrew a few hours beforehand, citing soreness in her right wrist, ending the Scot’s Wimbledon career early.
Murray’s mother, Judy, responded quickly on social media, expressing that her son was upset by the circumstances.
That was interpreted as a dig at Raducanu, a 21-year-old who was also scheduled to play her fourth-round singles match on Center Court on Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday morning, however, Judy released a different statement criticizing the schedule. She wrote on X: “I’m not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days. Pretty sure the scheduling (4th match court 1 with a single following day) will have played a major part in any decision-making.”
