Carlos Alcaraz explains how he defeated Tiafoe in a tough Wimbledon clash

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz survived a major scare in a third-round thriller against Frances Tiafoe at Wimbledon. The match went the distance, with Alcaraz rallying from the brink to secure a 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory. The Spaniard’s impressive record in fifth sets at majors improved to 12-1. Alcaraz, who won last year’s Wimbledon title by defeating Novak Djokovic, continues his strong performance at The Championships. Next up, he faces either Frenchman Ugo Humbert or American Brandon Nakashima in the fourth round.

During the following press conference Crelitos explained what he had to do to win the match.

“I served (at) a lot of difficult moments during the fourth set. … All I was thinking is: ‘OK, fight one more ball, one more ball.’ Thinking about the next point,” Alcaraz said. “And obviously in the tiebreak, I always tell myself that I have to go for it. If I lose it, I lose it, but I have to feel that I went for it all the time.”
