Stan Wawrinka lost a tough quarterfinal against his dear friend Roger Federer that once again proved to be too good.

The former world no.1 was in top form and it too also advantage of the fact that Stan was coming from a rather rough ride after he won a tough match against Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (5) 7-6 (4) 7-6 (8) before conquering an epic 5 hours’ 5 setters against an in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (6) 5-7 6-4 3-6 8-6.

Wawrinka about his Roland Garros

After his match against Federer, Stan commented

“In general the tournament was great for me. I played really good since the beginning of the tournament, won some big matches, especially against Garin, played super-well against Dimitrov, a tough match over two days, followed by Tsitsipas, who is really confident, playing well this year. A big battle, five hours.

I was super happy also to be ready physically after all that time on the court. Today to give another big battle against Roger was a tough, tough one for sure. But I think in general it was a good battle, a great battle.”

Stan is projected to get back in the top20 (19) from next week.

STILL, IT WAS A GOOD ONE
