Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian tennis sensation and current world number seven, has announced her decision to skip the upcoming Paris Olympics to prioritize her health and safeguard the remainder of her season.
In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Jabeur explained the rationale behind her decision, citing advice from her medical team. “Dear fans,” she wrote, “After consulting with my medical team regarding attending the Olympics in Paris, we have decided that the quick change of surface and the body’s adaptation required would put my knee at risk and jeopardize the rest of my season.”
Jabeur, who has been a trailblazer for African and Arab women in tennis, has had a challenging year, battling injuries and striving to maintain her form. The decision to forgo the Olympics was not taken lightly, as representing Tunisia on such a prestigious international stage is a significant honor. However, the potential risk to her knee, which has been a persistent concern, made the decision necessary.

The Olympic tennis event in Paris will be held on clay, a surface switch that poses a particular challenge given its close scheduling proximity to the grass-court season, including Wimbledon.
