In the Nottingham Open of 2024, Katie Boulter successfully defended her title. The British player made a friendly threat to her boyfriend, Alex de Minaur, who wasn’t present for the final contest, as she celebrated winning her home event.
Boulter competed against Karolina Pliskova in the Nottingham Open 2024 final match. The British player, who captured her first WTA Tour title in Nottingham the previous year, got off to a fast start, breaking Pliskova in the opening set. However, the Czech tied the match with two late breaks of her opponent’s serve.
Boulter said in her on-court interview: “This is a little bit of deja vu; I’m not entirely sure if I am dreaming or if this has happened. It is incredible to be here; it’s got a special place in my heart, and it always will do. It’s been an incredible week for me, mentally tough after a really hard clay-court season.”
The 27-year-old then made light of the fact that her boyfriend, De Minaur, wasn’t there at the game. She assumed the Australian would travel to Nottingham after his victory in the ATP 250 event the same day at the Libema Open in the Netherlands. That wasn’t the case, though, and Boulter made fun of the fact that De Minaur hadn’t shown up.
She said in a funny mood: “My boyfriend didn’t make the trip, even though I thought he might after his win in Hertogenbosch so we will have to be talking about that tonight and see if we are still together! I hope he is listening to this; we have some talking to do! It’s been a great week for me.”
