Kei Nishikori is bidding for an historical 4th consecutive title in Memphis. The Japanese no.1 has reached the final after defeating an erratic Sam Querrey in the semi 3-6 6-3 6-3. The American started rather strong in the opener to play a super aggressive tennis and win the 1st set 6-3. Sam wasn’t able to maintain high standards in the 2nd and 3rd sets to commit far too many unforced errors and allow Nishikori to step in.
Nishikori. I stepped up in the second set
Kei commented “It was a tough match. I had a difficult time in the first set with his shots deep to the baseline. In the second set, I started to find my rhythm and hit some pretty good shots myself.”
The final
Kei will play new American sensation Taylor Fritz in the final. The Japanese is the overwhelming favorite to win his 4th title in Memphis.
