In a match between two former Grand Slam champions, Bianca Andreescu defeated Naomi Osaka 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3) on Friday in the Libema Open quarterfinals in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
In the third set tiebreaker, Osaka led 3-2 after scoring three points in a row, but Andreescu put an end to her with five straight points of her own. Andreescu, who is currently ranked just 228th in the world, advanced to her first 2024 semifinal and is attempting to win a solo title for the first time since winning the 2019 U.S. Open.
During her match against Osaka, Andreescu was seen making quite a smart move, which stunned many tennis fans. Andreescu was observed using the hotel key to remove the grass from her shoes.
