After her humiliating defeat at the hands of young Mirra Andreeva in the French Open on Wednesday, Aryna Sabalenka cancelled her press conference. The 26-year-old was very upset after suffering a shocking quarterfinal loss; her media appearances were cancelled due to medical reasons.

Halfway through the first set, Sabalenka seemed to be having trouble; she was pointing to her stomach and grumbling while she spoke with the medical crew. She even indicated that retirement was imminent by making a swiping motion at her neck.

Despite receiving treatment throughout the match, the Belarusian managed to put her problems aside by winning a first-set tiebreak. However, in the second set, she was nearly in tears and frequently had to sit before attacking the next point.

The fans were disappointed to learn that Sabalenka was unable to fulfil her media responsibilities, as they had been eager to hear her account of what happened.

The official statement read: “Aryna Sabalenka will be unable to attend her post-match press conference due to medical reasons and is currently with the tournament medical team.”
