After a demanding schedule, Danielle Collins feels happy to take a short break from tennis. The American athlete plans to focus more of her emphasis on her personal life away from the demands of competition after playing continuously for the past six months or so.

Collins will retire from professional tennis at the end of the current season, so she won’t have much tennis left in her future. Collins did not have a memorable time at the French Open, falling to Olga Danilovic in the second round.

The 30-year-old had plenty to celebrate after securing her spot in the July 26–28 Paris Olympics. Collins wrote in a lengthy Instagram post that although she has been enjoying playing tennis lately, she has been mentally affected by questions about her retirement.

She wrote on Instagram: “This pumped about finally getting a break. After 6 months of playing a tournament almost every week, I can finally take some time to relax and recover. At the beginning of the season, it was a goal of mine to qualify for the Olympics. It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to make it happen. I am very proud of my success over the last six months. With all of the attention around my retirement at the end of the year, the last couple weeks have been challenging for me.”

She further added: “My sleep schedule had been pretty erratic due to some matches that were finishing up late at night, so that didn’t help. I’m so grateful for the support from my incredible boyfriend, Bryan, close friends, and some incredible fans over the past few weeks. The uplifting energy and encouragement mean so much to me. I realize that there are much more important issues going on in the world right now. I just wanted to share all of this because success is not linear and no one is immune to having bad days.”

She concluded: “I will be pampering myself with some self-care over the next few days. I’m feeling really happy to finally get to enjoy some of my favourite activities and be reunited with Mr. Q. I will be back feeling refreshed and recharged for grass court season.”
