After defeating Lorenzo Musetti in a third-round match at the 2024 French Open, Novak Djokovic gave an amusing participation appeal. Notably, the match is now recorded in history as the last to conclude at Roland Garros.
Musetti swept the second and third sets, and the Serb, having won the first, seemed completely confused. But he rallied hard in the fourth set and went all out in the decisive to win 7-5, 6-7(8), 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, and move on to the Roland Garros fourth round.
After the game, Djokovic praised the Philippe Chatrier audience for their support and made fun of the younger fans for staying up so late.
Djokovic said in his post-match press conference: “Thank you so much. Amazingly, you stayed. What time is it? 3 am! Kids, you should be in bed! What are you doing here? You’re so young! No, thank you so much; that was perhaps the best match I’ve ever played here, the most exciting.”
The world No. 1 believed that if the people of Paris were going to a party, he would skip sleep and attend despite his naturally high adrenaline levels.
He added: “And now. Who’s going to sleep? It’s impossible to sleep now with all this adrenaline. If you’re going to a party, I’m coming too! Let’s go.”
