After a victorious match against Marton Fucsovics at Roland Garros, Stefanos Tsitsipas shared a heartwarming experience during an on-court interview. Mats Wilander, the former tennis champion, asked Tsitsipas about his special connection with Paris and what makes playing at the French Open unique for him.
Wilander inquired, “What’s so special for you here in Paris? This is where you made your first slam final. How does it feel to come out here compared to other events?”
Tsitsipas responded with a smile, recounting a recent moment that deeply resonated with him. He said, “I was driving the other day with the official car of the tournament. The gentleman that was driving me said people love me in Paris. I felt it for so many years.”
The crowd responded with enthusiastic cheers, reinforcing the affection Parisian fans have for him. Tsitsipas continued, “I know I shouldn’t be talking on behalf of all of you. But getting that nice comment to start my week here obviously puts a smile on my face and makes me want to play great tennis in Paris. It’s an amazing city. The city of love.”
