In a shocking turn of events, Camila Giorgi, a well-known tennis player, and her family are accused of disappearing without paying rent and allegedly stealing valuable furniture from a villa in Calenzano, near Florence. The villa’s owner provided an exclusive interview to Repubblica, detailing the surreal situation he is now facing.
The owner described his disbelief when he discovered the Giorgi family had vacated the property, leaving behind six months of unpaid rent and taking with them several valuable items. “It is a surreal situation, I can’t believe this. Not only did they flee without saying anything, but they took half of the furniture: Persian carpets, valuable furniture, even a 500kg antique table,” he said. The owner estimates the damage to be between €50,000 and €100,000.
The situation came to light when neighbors alerted the owner about a crane and trucks in front of the house, which had been rented under the name of Sergio Giorgi, Camila’s father. “It was a shock! When I arrived, everybody was gone, and the house was half empty, as if it had been raided,” the owner recounted. To make matters worse, he found other items, including furniture and carpets, piled in the garden, exposed to the elements. “Probably they already filled the container and there was no space left,” he speculated.
Despite the significant loss, the owner has not yet reported the incident to the police. “I am discouraged, maybe they are abroad and we’ll never see them again. I don’t want to waste more money and energy. It’s really a hoax; we felt secure renting to a known person, a world-class athlete… it couldn’t have gone worse!” he lamented. He tried contacting Sergio Giorgi, hoping to recover his belongings, but was met with a dismissive response. “I tried to write to Sergio asking for my things back, but he answered contemptuously, saying they were of little value. Truly an obnoxious behavior towards someone like me, who is suffering not only an economic damage but an affective one too,” the owner expressed.
This incident has left the owner in a state of despair, questioning the trust placed in high-profile renters and grappling with both financial and emotional losses.
