Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the 2024 French Open qualifying rounds. Her denial of a wild card entry into the tournament’s main draw aligns with this decision.
Raducanu has finally given her explanation for missing out on the French Open qualifying tournament next week, stating that she needs a strong training block to stay injury-free for the remainder of the season.
Raducanu’s name disappeared from the qualifying entry list for the French Open early on Sunday morning, leaving her supporters surprised and upset.
Raducanu said in a statement: “It’s important for me to keep laying the foundations and I will use the time to do a healthy block before the grass and subsequent hard-court seasons to give myself a chance to keep fit for the rest of the year.”
Since Raducanu has been hitting on hard courts lately, both indoors and outdoors, it has always looked more likely that this was a calculated decision rather than a last-minute change of heart.
