Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece easily defeated Cameron Norrie 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) in Rome to secure his spot in the round of 16. As a result, Norrie is eliminated from the Italian Open.
In the first set, Tsitsipas showed why he was so much better. He broke Britain’s Norrie twice and won the set quickly because of some beautiful drop drops, lightning-fast serves, and strong forehand wins.
Tsitsipas expressed his happiness after the win and said: “You do have difficult days, even as a tennis player. A lot of people working regular jobs also have these days. People need to understand that we, as athletes, go through these emotions and ups and downs as well. We are human beings at the end of the day.”
He further said: “It’s important to find something that drives you and makes you block those emotions and feelings you might go through or even if you go through them, to try and minimize them as much as you can. I’m happy to see myself in a happy place like this today. I think it showed in my tennis. I’m aiming for these types of feelings every single day.”
Tsitsipas after beating Norrie in Rome:
“You seemed considerably happier than when you walked on court two days ago.. is that just life, you have difficult days?”
