During a press interaction, Coco Gauff shared a humorous perspective on the movie ‘Challengers,’ particularly regarding its portrayal of relationships in tennis.
When asked if she had encountered characters like those in the film on the tennis tour, Gauff quipped, “I don’t know any throuples going on on tour (laughter). There probably are some, but I’m not in it.”
Gauff humorously distanced herself from the fictional character Tashi Duncan, remarking, “I’m not Tashi Duncan. I don’t know any Tashi Duncans.” However, she did find some common ground with Tashi’s on-court mentality.
“I did relate to her mentality on the court, not everything going on off the court,” Gauff admitted.
In a light-hearted moment, Gauff mentioned a scene from the movie to her boyfriend, jokingly thanking him for not being a tennis player. “Thank God you don’t play tennis, because she’s right, I would not want to date a scrub on tour (laughter),” she said.
Despite finding humor in the film, Gauff noted that she didn’t fully relate to Tashi’s character due to her treatment of her husband. “That’s the only relatable part I have about Tashi, otherwise she’s not a nice character to how she treated her husband,” Gauff remarked.
Gauff’s playful comments shed light on the lighter side of life on the tennis tour and her ability to find humor in fictional portrayals of the sport.
