The renowned Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova revealed that she has been watching her compatriot Mirra Andreeva, a talented 17-year-old who she predicts will have a breakout 2024 season and a bright future.
Since Andreeva has been competing on the main stage for a year, it is fair to say that she is already a well-known WTA player.
Andreeva, who was 15 when the 2023 Madrid Open got underway, made her WTA debut in the round of 16 exactly a year ago, using a wildcard. This was at the WTA 1000 level. Andreeva then made her Grand Slam debut as a qualifier by qualifying for the third round of the French Open, and she then made her Wimbledon debut by qualifying for the round of 16.
Sharapova replied to a reporter after asking about Andreeva: “This is tough. I want to say Mirra Andreeva will have a phenomenal year. I followed a little bit of her matches in 23’ and I think she has a strong attitude and has the game to back it up. Genuinely, just like her approach and her sensibility in the game. And I think she has a very bright future ahead of her.”
