After playing his final singles match at the Miami Open, Andy Murray stated that he is now looking forward to the finish. Additionally, he acknowledged that in the last few months of his career, he will have to give it everything he has before he can finally spend time with his family.
When Murray faced Tomas Machac on Sunday, he was hoping to extend his time in the ATP Masters 1000 event after victories over Matteo Berrettini and Tomas Etcheverry in the opening two rounds.
Murray’s farewell tour came to an end in the tournament’s third round when he lost to the Czech, even though he had led the last set 5-3. After rolling his ankle at 5-5 in the decider, Murray needed medical attention and said his final goodbyes to Miami supporters before losing 5-7, 7-5, and 7-6 (7-5).
He took a moment at the end of the game to give a farewell wave to everyone who had come to watch him.
Murray expressed his thoughts after the match and said: “I wasn’t thinking about all the matches I played. Just more that that’s the last match that I am going to play here, which is sad because I love it here. I’ve spent so much of my tennis career here and I would have liked it to have gone on a little bit longer. This tournament, particularly for me, is an important one so it was a bit more emotional leaving the court today than it might be at some of the other events. I am looking forward to the end now. Give my best the next few months and get to be at home with my family.”
