Roger Federer had to work harder than last year in Basel to defeat David Goffin 6-3 3-6 -6-1. This quarter was the rematch of the 2014 final when the Swiss Legend breezed past Goffin 6-2 6-2. At the beginning of this match things looked similar to the previous year as Roger got an early 5-2 lead in the first set (won 6-3), but things changed in the second when Roger was broken twice to surrender the set (6-3). Roger commented “I know David quite well, even though we’ve only played three times now. He came to Dubai last year and we practiced together. I knew what he could do, so I wasn’t surprised in the match today when he was returning easily, taking the ball on the rise and distributing it left and right with the forehand. We found great rhythm in the second set and in the third it was up to me.”

Next vs. Sock
Roger will play Jack Sock in the semifinal. They have played each other only once this year in Indian Wells where Roger cruised with an easy 6-3 6-2 win.
