Sharapova wins gruelling battle in Singapore

What a fight between Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska in Singapore!

Maria didn’t win a single match since the Wimbledon quarter final (d. Vandeweghe) as she had to battle with a couple of injuries to skip the entire American Summer and the Asian Swing. In Singapore the Russian Beauty had to face an in-form Agnieszka Radwanska that has won a couple of tournaments in the last month (Tokyo and Tianjin), but she had a 2-12 record against Maria.

Sharapova and Radwanska faced off in their first match in the WTA finals and that was a huge fight with the Pole winning the opener 4-6 and Maria fighting back to win the contest 4-6 6-3 6-4 after almost 3 hours.

An emotional Maria commented “This is my first completed match since July, so it’s a pretty big deal for me!

Coming into this event I did everything I could to be healthy. I just didn’t quite know how my results would go. Even though I didn’t play my best tennis today I still got through, and that’s what matters, especially against such a tough competitor like Radwanska. We always have such close matches here. To fight hard and be able to win the match in the end means so much to me.”

Maria will play next Simona Halep that has disintegrated her US Open conqueror Flavia Pennetta 6-0 6-3. This will be a match to watch.
